A 3rd place, 2x Highly commended's and 6 commended images make the finals this year....
Like painting, music and sculpture it conveys thoughts, ideas, messages and meaning.
Combining our skills and passion for photography, travel and teaching, we have created a service to help photographers realise their potential and nurture their photographic skills in workshops and tours on stunning locations.
We want to inspire you, to get up early and catch the dawn ‘Blue Hour’ and then still feel driven to stay up to capture the ‘Golden hour’ at dusk and sundown…
Rajasthan is about colour, some organised chaos, dusty roads, impromptu adventures round the next corner, bustling streets, markets at dawn, hazy sunrises and red sunsets…
"Looking back at my photos from the Tuscany trip in October 2013, what a shock, my standard of photography was dreadful, any good shots appear to be luck more than skill, however in the last three years I have built on the tuition you provided, practiced a lot, and my expectations are now much higher. ( Having said that some of the images worked, mostly the slightly unusual, and I am sure you will recognise a touch of your style in most of them.) You have had a big influence on my photography skill and style !"
"I joined Hamish’s tour in Romania to challenge myself to do some photography that was out of my comfort zone. The tour was superbly managed and Hamish soon got me taking pictures that I didn’t think I was capable of. He is both an accomplished photographer and a very good teacher. There were plenty of laughs too. This was a very interesting, educational and enjoyable, trip. Any workshop and tour with Hamish is likely to be a great experience."
"Photographic Journeys do not follow the Tourist Route. Hamish has explored and discovered places off the beaten track, spiced up a with a real ‘Spirit of Adventure’ and along with his true passion for both travel, other cultures and his sound technical and aesthetical knowledge of photography is what sets him apart. I’m looking to return with him again soon."
"A holiday and photography workshop I will never forget.. Sunrise to sunset photography in beautiful and obscure locations with Hamish. Every day was fun and educational, not to mention the fantastic food and local refreshments…. just a few of my favourite pictures which are typical of the beautiful Tuscan landscapes…. would love to join you again one day on another adventure…"
"Hamish loves being in Romania and that helped to inspire me when I was making images. I learned a lot from watching the easy way he interacted with people, talking all the time he was taking photographs. I’m very keen to travel with him again in the future."
"The Ladakh trip was a wonderful experience and opportunity to improve my confidence with photography and full of surprises that made the journey especially memorable. As a beginner on the technical side, I had good appropriate advice that added to my skills from the first proper session (after acclimatising to the high altitude.) Hamish showed us not only the incredible landscapes, but also arranged visits to photograph people at work so I have a much wider range of pictures than I usually collect. Experiences were as important to me as observation, from crossing a rickety bridge over the Indus to the thrill of the high mountain passes. The small group size allowed flexibility and an extra bonus in sharing ideas, the food was delicious and the tour was so much fun that I’m looking forward to the next one."
"I wanted to make better use of my camera and not rely on automatic settings, as well as improve the composition of my shots. I went on a one week photography holiday led by Hamish. The tuition was great as it was not classroom based – it was out in the open taking shots with guidance as we went. Not only did Hamish help me to gain the confidence to use the manual settings on the camera but he also made me think about taking “a picture rather than a holiday snap’’. I had a great holiday and learned a lot."
"I have really enjoyed my adventures with Hamish to a number of interesting countries. We are well looked after and great consideration taken to see areas and local people we would not normally see on a normal touring holiday. His help and encouragement with the actual photography is excellent making us think about why and what we are taking. Suggesting we think ahead so we take a number of photographs in an area or on a subject to tell a story so that when we come home it’s not just one picture but a collection making up a number of stories. Our guides and drivers have been very pleasant and helpful on each tour, and accommodation has been very comfortable."
“Travelling with Hamish is a photographic adventure ! He takes the time to search out interesting and challenging locations for photographers. He uses the best local guides and drivers. His skill with environmental portraiture is second to none – techniques which he is always happy to share on his trips. I have now been on two trips led by Hamish, both of which I enjoyed immensely Any workshop and tour with Hamish is likely to be a great experience."
"As a relative beginner I wondered if I would find a photography holiday too technical. This was definitely not the case as Hamish was able to explain all the basics in a simple and straightforward way. With practice and guidance my understanding and confidence grew and my skills improved day by day. I really enjoyed the combination of planned destinations and the spontaneity of stopping when we spotted something that interested or inspired us. Hamish’s good humour, enthusiasm and ability to pitch tuition to the level I was at all helped to create a truly enjoyable week."
"Tuscany was a great trip, your use of local knowledge to find not only the best “Classic” photo locations but also the slightly unusual locations, with guidance on how to get the best from any location and light has proved invaluable. I really liked the tuition on post processing too, I am now really getting more from my images. I have become a huge fan of Lightroom thanks to you. Being on a photography trip with Hamish is relaxing and hugely rewarding too. Many thanks."
"I went to Puglia on my first ever photography holiday and I came home with many nice memories. We were a nice small group and I got a lot of advice that helped me improve my skills. The landscape was beautiful and Hamish took us to interesting places I would not have been able to find myself, such as abandoned houses and old farms. It was a great experience."
